In April 2027, Australians from all walks of life will come together for an extraordinary
adventure through the heart of Nepal as part of the Himalayan Challenge 2027.
Organised by Trek Ready Himalayas in partnership with the Silver Fox
Initiative and supporting Shake It Up Australia Foundation, the challenge
combines world-class trekking experiences with a powerful mission: raising
awareness and funds for Parkinson's disease research while making a positive
impact on local communities throughout Nepal.
The Himalayan Challenge offers participants the opportunity to experience some of
the most iconic trekking routes on earth. Depending on their chosen adventure,
trekkers will journey to Everest Base Camp, stand beneath the world's highest
mountain, and immerse themselves in the culture of the legendary Sherpa people.
Others will explore the remote beauty of the Manaslu Circuit, one of Nepal's last
great wilderness treks, where ancient villages and traditional Tibetan culture remain
largely unchanged by time.
Participants can also discover the breathtaking Annapurna Base Camp Trek, a
spectacular journey into a natural amphitheatre surrounded by some of the highest
peaks in the Himalayas. The peaceful Langtang Valley Trek offers stunning
mountain scenery, rich Tamang culture, and a remarkable story of resilience and
rebuilding following the devastating 2015 earthquake. Meanwhile, the
legendary Annapurna Circuit takes trekkers through diverse landscapes, from
subtropical forests to high mountain passes, providing one of the most diverse
trekking experiences anywhere in the world.
Yet the Himalayan Challenge is about far more than reaching a destination. Every
trek supports ongoing fundraising efforts for Shake It Up Australia, Australia's
leading not-for-profit organisation dedicated solely to Parkinson's disease research.
Funds raised help support groundbreaking Australian research that aims to improve
treatments and ultimately find a cure for Parkinson's disease.
The challenge also delivers meaningful benefits to local communities across Nepal.
Trek Ready Himalayas works alongside trusted local operators, guides, porters,
accommodation providers, transport companies, and small businesses, ensuring
tourism revenue directly supports families in remote mountain regions. Participants
contribute to local economies through accommodation, meals, transport,
employment opportunities, and community projects that strengthen health,
education, and wellbeing outcomes.
For many Nepalese communities, trekking tourism is a vital source of income. By
choosing responsible and sustainable travel practices, the Himalayan Challenge
helps create employment, preserve cultural traditions, and support long-term
community resilience. The relationships formed between trekkers and local people
often become one of the most memorable aspects of the journey.
The Himalayan Challenge 2027 is more than a trek. It is an opportunity to challenge
yourself, build lifelong friendships, experience one of the world's most spectacular
environments, and make a genuine difference both in Australia and Nepal.
Every step taken in the Himalayas brings us closer to a future without Parkinson's
disease while helping strengthen the communities that call these remarkable
mountains home.
Trek Ready Himalayas: Adventure. Connection. Purpose. Creating a world
without Parkinson's disease, one step at a time.
